Prophetic Ministry
Prophetic Ministry, like many other ministries in the Church needs to be embraced. It is one of the many ways the Lord speaks and ministers to his people the body of Christ. Through the prophetic ministry we hear the heart of God and ultimately minister to Him as we ought. We are not called first to be ministers of God, but rather, Ministers to God. The prophetic ministry revolves around three essentials on earth: the prophetic individual, the ability to hear, understand and interpret what God is saying, and finally, the ability to “utter” or prophecy that which has been received.

Individuals who have the “Testimony of Jesus” have the spirit of prophecy. In John’s encounter with an Angel in the book of Revelations, the Angel told John, “.....the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy,” (Rev. 19:10). God is constantly speaking, He has not stopped talking and revealing his heart. When God speaks, it is up to the human agent (the prophetic) to hear, understand and clearly interpreter what the Lord is saying. Mike Bickle of the International House of Prayer (IHOP), in his book, “Growing in the Prophetic,” mentioned his encounter with the prophetic ministry and how it impacted his ministry for better.

Mike mentioned that human immaturity among some prophetic individuals could be very destructive. Often, such immaturity is reflected in over qualifying what God is saying by either adding, or subtracting something from the original message. Therefore, we all need to weigh every prophecy to avoid falling in the destructive path of human immaturity.
The Apostle Paul is right when he asked one, two or three individuals to prophecy while the rest weigh what is being said carefully to align with the written word (Logos) (I Cor. 14:29-33). Nonetheless, spiritual immaturity does not negate the release of the prophetic ministry. As such, the church needs to seriously pray and ask the lord for prophetic utterances. As much as a system is set to correct prophetic errors in the church, there needs to be enough room for practice to nurture young prophets. In other words, in embracing the prophetic ministry, churches need to recognize the dangers and benefits associate with the ministry and intentionally cuddle the ministry in all humility and love before God.

To the Thessalonians the Apostle said, “Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesying. Test all things; hold fast that which is good,” (I Thess. 5:19-21). Yes God speaks through prophecies, and yes the message is processed through human filter, therefore, the human agent needs to fellowship with the Holy Spirit on daily basis for a clear understanding and interpretations of the prophetic expressions and impressions. In the process of ministering to God, we hear his heart as He communicates and lets us know who He really is, but most importantly, what he desired of us, our purpose and identity.

In every generation there has been a prophetic voice. Though they may or may not be accepted at their local churches, their ministry has been a whole mark for our generation to move deep into the prophetic ministry. The most important task of the prophets besides hearing from God, is to raise a generation of prophetic church. With the current prophetic voices and the level of acceptance of the prophetic ministry by many churches showed the Church is on the right track.

We pray for more prophetic people in the body of Christ to emerge and bring the heart of God to the people in Jesus' name. "Amen!"
"And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Rev. 19:10).
